WHAT’S GOOD?!?!

Listen…there’s so much to say. Basically, we finished shooting our music video for “Poppin’ On TV” and it was a memorable experience. We had a room full of talented young motivated people and the energy was contagious. Omar and the production crew directed some amazing shots. ALL of the talent performed really well, and I’m not talking about True 2 Life Music…I’m talking about everyone from the models to the make up artists…EVERYONE was on their game. We want to THANK everyone who made this possible.

I’m OD excited to see the finished video. In the meantime, we will be releasing different parts of behind the scenes footage that will give you a peak of the on-set hustle, interviews from those involved and the overall excitement of the video shoot. WAIT TILL MY FACE START POPPIN’ ON TV!!

We do it for the kids! the kids baby!

We’ll be jumping off this summer’s first NYC performance at the world famous Knitting Factory (74 Leonard Street, NY, NY). The event includes the official launch of apparel brand HUMAN INTONATION. H.I. is fashion line started by a college friend of ours dedicated to creating awareness and raising donations for a number of growing non-profits addressing today’s pertinent social causes such as rebuilding New Orleans, peace and education in the Darfur region, and youth & minorities living with HIV/AIDS.

So basically the event will include a glimpse of the new line of t-shirts and other HUMAN INTONATION apparel in a Fashion show (models hand picked by True 2 Life members) and a live performance from the best hip hop performers out, True 2 Life Music of course. The event is being dj’d by our mans and them…DJ Spynfo!

We’ll be performing a remix to LLLv1 bonus track “Presidential” featuring Barak Obama.

But for real…no one’s fucking with us. dope music. dope fashion. come check us out. Tix are 15 in advance. 20 at the door. Proceeds will be donated to non-profit “Hands On New Orleans”

Check out True 2 Life’s Concise in Entertainment Weekly’s “First Look.” They show a photo from a scene of the upcoming Fox Searchlight Feature Film “Notorious.” Concise, playing “Gutta” of Junior Mafia, is next to Derek Luke & Jamal Woolard (playing Puffy & Biggie respectively). There is a scene from the movie “White Men Can’t Jump” where Wesley Snipes (feeling really good after winning a big basketball tournament) gives a pan handler a $20 bill.  Woody Harrelson thinks he’s crazy, but his response is:

“If I don’t take care of my brothers who will?”

Combining that quote with Season 5 of THE WIRE’s ‘homeless dilemma’ makes me think about giving back to the less fortunate.  Although we in the grind right now and all about increasing our exposure on a daily basis, we have two shows coming this week that are charity events… we’re absolutely thrilled to be a part of both.

This Saturday, TRUE 2 LIFE MUSIC will be performing @ Trinity College in Hartford, CT.  We will be opening for DJ UNK.. doors open @ 9:00pm.  It’s basically gonna be a concert/party so you already know ya boys are gonna rock out.  Proceeds go to the Hartford Hospital Patient Navigation Program to benefit uninsured patients fighting Cancer.

This Sunday, TRUE 2 LIFE MUSIC will be performing @ The Raphael Hernandez School of the Performing Arts in NYC.  It will be apart of the Town Hall portion of the HHEAL FEST.  This event is geared to inspire and enlighten the youth offering different ways where hip hop can be used to educate.  For more information, go to: http://hiphopassociation.org/hheal/

Some quick updates…True 2 Life has been working on a Top Secret Mission; much like Hillary Clinton’s mission over Bosnia except TRUE. With out giving away too much, details will be coming shortly; good or bad. But some big things could be on our horizon so stay posted…in the meantime…

True 2 Life Music will be performing in Boston for the first time a while. To all our Boston peoples, make sure you come check us out at Northeastern, Friday, April 4th. We’ll be performing at the “We’re Taking Over” Hip Hop Concert on campus at “Afterhours.” Shouts to Frontpage for getting us on board. Show starts at 8:30. More details on facebook.

Cornell Gets Low

By Maurice Chammah and Maggie Prendergast Maggie: This will be an unbiased review because both reporters had never heard of T-Pain. Therefore, we had no preconceived notions and can just judge his Cornell appearance.

Maurice: T-Pain was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for “Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group” and indeed, he has built a reputation on being “that singing guy” next to Akon, Kanye West and Chris Brown, among others. At this show, sadly, he failed to convince anybody that he was marketable as a solo artist.

Maggie: The show opened not with DJ UNK (to many peoples’ surprise) but with True 2 Life. True 2 Life is a band composed of upbeat Cornell alumni. Their performance was nice because they talked us up about Cornell in Risley Hall.

Maurice: True 2 Life is exactly what old-school hip hop is all about. They had the stellar early ’90’s beats. They had songs about how great they are (“You think I’m hot now? You ain’t even seen me. Just wait ’til my face is poppin’ on TV”).

They sounded like a bunch of friends hanging out in bright, trendy clothing. They had break dancers. I couldn’t see their shoes but those were probably pretty snazzy too — let’s just say they were Adidas or Nikes (Reebok?). (more…)
