True 2 Life Music x La’Toy Fashion Show

Friday, September 19th, 2008

True 2 Life and fashion go hand in hand. And not be cliche or whatever, but we stay fresh. It’s literally documented fact. And not the “fresh” where everyone thinks they’re fresh but they just wear a bunch of obnoxious colors and can’t style it. We got the od cool type of fresh on a consistent basis. Our fresh is like pi, it never ends or repeats. I might fuck around and put that in some lyrics. But anyways, we’ll be performing at the La’toy Couture Lingerie Fashion Show on Sept 25th in Brooklyn. Yeah…models…lingerie and hip hop. dope hip hop. What more do you really need? Liqs?! That’s there too. and probably some other drugs. Shouts to Miss Jackson and Miss Lucas.

Date: Thursday, September 25, 2008
Time: 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Location: Lox Lounge
Street: 15 Putman Ave (On the corner of Grand and Fulton)
City/Town: Brooklyn, NY, Planet Earth

Freedom

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

I seen this quote on one of those ads on the train the other day:

The only freedom deserving the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental and spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest.

At first I looked at briefly but then looked again and pulled out the celly to start copying it down. I was typing dumb fast but my stop to get off the train came up and I only got a section of the quote. Luckily for google I was able to figure out the rest (and didn’t have to re-type it either, thanks to copy / paste)

I realized I was feeling it for a several reasons. It kind of speaks to what we are doing with our music and the whole “True 2 Life” movement. We have the freedom to do what we want and how we want it. Whether that be through the expression in our music or the direction we take our business. Most people can understand and appreciate what were doing but some people can’t. Some people, whether they’re friends or strangers don’t understand why a group of young driven college educated people would want to “rap.” They don’t see it’s bigger than their pre-conceived prejudice of the genre.

It’s also motivational for anyone who would rather not be told what they should or shouldn’t be doing. With entertainment and hip hop, some do it for a hobby and some for a voyeuristic obsession with rap culture (which is kind of lame but that’s their choice. probably won’t make it far tho). Some do it for girls, some do it for attention. Some do it for a hustle, so do it for respect. Some do it in vain, so it for the love of the game. Whatever you do it for, at least you have the freedom to DO YOU. It goes for anything, not just music. I would rather see someone do something they want rather than see someone miserable doing something they don’t. That person doing what they want to do has more potential even if the miserable person is good at what they can’t stand doing. People, society, whomever or whatever, may not know what’s best for you but can pressure you do to something thats not. That’s not free.

As for us we live and breath hip hop (and we do it well). Figuratively speaking, True 2 Life has stepped outside that box that some people would rather see us neatly placed in. We probably even stepped out that box literally too, the cubicle at some fortune 500.

We’re breaking the mold. Everything from the go-getter do-it-yourself mentality to image and content. Just check the spirit of the rhymes, you’ll see it’s FREE. Yet…we’re not the first nor the last to do it but we respect the culture and the influence it has on the world and we are going to take it as far as we can. Because we have the freedom to do so.

FREE! holla at ya boy. we got them thangs when we land…early. and yo im not the blogging type nor an english major, so don’t come at me with the grammar mistakes.

TRUE 2 LIFE MUSIC opening up for SEAN PRICE & ILL BILL @ Toad’s Place

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

What’s good peoples? Now this show should be a lot more solidified…these past few days have been a series of heavy traveling and rolling with the punches. But that can be expected when dealing with multiple venues, club promoters and booking agents. We were called to open up for Slim twice at Club NV as we explained earlier. We went for round 2 Friday night and as we pulled up to the club we were informed that Slim actually wasn’t showing up to the club again and the sound guy couldn’t make it either. So after telling fans and followers and random people to come check us out for the second time, we found out that not only is Slim not performing but we can’t even perform ourselves.

We apologize to anyone who came out to show some love and support. We wanted to rock out with ya’ll but there were a number of intangibles that prevented us from performing. But good thing is, we’re dope and we’ll be doing more shows.

Like this one. On Sunday, September 14th, 2008 we’ll be opening up for Sean Price & Ill Bill. And we’ll be doing our thing like always. We always get it poppin’ at Toads. Tickets are 13 bucks. But holla at one of us at the door and we can most likely swing a $10-$11 deal. The show should be dope, Sean Price and Ill Bill have been doing there thing for a while and they go in.

Venue: Toad’s Place (300 York Street, New Haven, CT)
Date & Time: Sept 14th, 2008 @ 8:00 pm
Damage: $13

Come through. Do it for Hip Hop. Stay True.

word.

True 2 Life Music is Performing with Slim of 112 - Round 2

Friday, September 12th, 2008

So…we tried to pull the CT double last night…yeah, about that. Didn’t work. I remember in track I used to try pulling off the meet double. Either by winning the 200/400 combo or 100/200 combo. It’s pretty hard sometimes but very much possible. The CT double is a little different. We were booked for 2 different shows in 2 different cities, 40 minutes apart from each other - New Haven, CT to Hartford, CT. According to our plans, we had about an hour and a half in between performance sets, so if everything was on point it shouldn’t have been hard to do both. We even budgeted some intangibles like parking and traffic into our stage-to-stage timing. We set off our R-Bar performance first. It was Hot 93.7’s “We Got Next” College Fest, so alot of the good peoples over at Hot 93.7 were there.

We were chopping it up for a little bit before we had to go on. But like any and pretty much every other show, things run late. We ended up rocking out anyways and we did our thing thing. We performed “Poppin’ On TV” and our next single “Don’t Worry.” We hand over the mics to DJ Craig G and hit the road. Of course there’s traffic, traffic stops, parking issues, etc…but we did an excellent job of making up for time. We actually ended up getting to Hartford around the time we planned. But long story short, Slim ends up rocking out a little early and we miss our performance slot.

Sucks right?! Not really. The owner and promoter of Club NV express to us that they feel bad about the mishap and since Slim is coming back tomorrow night (Friday, as in TONIGHT) they want us to open up “again.” So tonight, 9.12.08, we’ll be performing with Slim of 112, same place, same time. Club NV, downtown Hartford, CT. We’ll be there around 11 and we’ll be rocking out harder than ever. So if you missed the show, come get it Poppin with us. HOLLA!

Shouts to Jenny Boom Boom, Craig G, Joey Franchise and everyone else that held us down last night. That love is much appreciated and will always be reciprocated.

TRUE 2 LIFE MUSIC’s in the building. And we’re not stopping there.
