CANT JUMP

There is a scene from the movie “White Men Can’t Jump” where Wesley Snipes (feeling really good after winning a big basketball tournament) gives a pan handler a $20 bill.  Woody Harrelson thinks he’s crazy, but his response is:

“If I don’t take care of my brothers who will?”
- Wesley Snipes, in “White Men Can’t Jump”

Combining that quote with Season 5 of THE WIRE’s ‘homeless dilemma’ makes me think about giving back to the less fortunate.  Although we in the grind right now and all about increasing our exposure on a daily basis, we have two shows coming this week that are charity events… we’re absolutely thrilled to be a part of both.

trinity college

This Saturday, TRUE 2 LIFE MUSIC will be performing @ Trinity College in Hartford, CT.  We will be opening for DJ UNK.. doors open @ 9:00pm.  It’s basically gonna be a concert/party so you already know ya boys are gonna rock out.  Proceeds go to the Hartford Hospital Patient Navigation Program to benefit uninsured patients fighting Cancer.

MLK

In remembrance of the day Martin Luther King Jr, was assassinated, I wanted to share with you true 2 lifers an exerpt from the life and times of MLK. For me, MLK’s persistence to his cause in the face of adversity alone is motivation. Not to mention the overwhelming power of his words and his vision. Anyone in the universe should be able to draw inspiration from the KING.

Here is the exerpt, a quick read from a chapter of MLK’s autobiography. He talks about being stabbed in the chest and not letting that type of violence distract his movement.

Follow your dreams.

True 2 Life + Fashion + Performance @ CCSU

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

You know how True 2 Life does when it comes to fashion and clothes and all that. You can tell by our pictures that we expect nothing less than fresh. Even if it means breaking the bank. We have an unspoken rule here at True 2 Life, a code of conduct when it comes to being fly.

That rule is: If an article of clothing has been wore and photographed several times, you should never be seen in it again. ever.

Of course there are some exceptions to the rule, but that pretty much sets the standard. So, not only are we better artists than you (you = 98% of the rappers in the world) but we dress better and look better and we’re better at sports than you. in my humble opinion at least.

Style and image are important elements of Hip-Hop. We like to stand out. We don’t do anything to be average or regular. But we like to say we walk that fine line of being larger than life characters yet having down to earth personalities. We live that, that’s True 2 Life.

Anyways speaking of fashion and what not…above is a music video of some photoshoot footage we had laying around. It’s set to the song “Everything” by k.Words (produced by myself) off of our debut Mix CD “Live. Love. Listen.” which will be out next week (and i’ll simply adjust this post next week if it isn’t)

Also speaking of fashion True 2 Life will be performing at Central Connecticut State University’s Annual Fashion Show.

CCSU
Show is Saturday, April 5th. Show starts at 8:00pm. It’s FREE! So come see some beautiful women in nice clothes and also see some dope rappers in fly clothes. We’ll be performing inbetween one of the scenes. More details on facebook.
